Chez Alverda

I wish there were Oscars for me! unfortunately I’d probably have to make my own out of duct tape and a t-shirt. I just hope lots of Red Hat Society ladies come to this exhibit (in the 26 days it’s open) and tell me how awesome (or RHS terminology equivalent) I am, that’s the MoCoHiSo version of an award: the approbation of elderly women.

yogisarah:

That’s amazing!  Met quality on a MoCoHiSci budget—you definitely deserve some sort of award.  Do they have an “Oscars” of collections management?
alverda:

If I worked at the Met or something, putting up this 1870s traveling gown would have involved getting someone to make me a custom dress form.  Instead this dress - which looks pretty nice if I do say so myself - is on a form consisting of:
- 1960s era vintage wire “my double” dress form
- the stand from some other dress form
-t-shirt and duct tape “make your own dress form” shell, thank you etsy and my coworker’s 13 year old daughter
- wire
- at least four kinds of quilt/craft batting/stuffing
- two kinds of tulle
- an old Gap tshirt (mine)
- a thrift-store petticoat
- a slip loaned by my old boss
- acid-free tissue
- mylar (on the floor)
- two kinds of pins
- an old cotton sheet
Shouldn’t I get paid MORE than the people who work at the Met, just based on my ingenuity factor?
